Stupid Money; Saving the United States

March 3, 2010

All over the news this morning the criminal justice system in Florida, specifically Pinellas County was in an uproar due to a 40 million dollar shortfall in the county’s budget. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/jan/27/budget-shortfall-causes-pinellas-sheriff-ponder-mo/

Florida spends over $20 thousand a year to house an inmate and only $6 thousand per student in education. How do you feel about inmates growing, maintaining and harvesting their own food as a way to reduce state spending and how could this get started? There are already small projects in florida where inmates grow their own vegetables in Seminole County and in New York a ground breaking program called The Greenhouse Project shows that gardening may be good for the soul. It is no mystery that most inmates that have not learned a trade or a skill and then are released back in to the environment where they used to live before incarceration have an incredibly high recidivism rate thereby costing the taxpayer thousands more. An example would be In the state of Florida inmates could learn to harvest oranges and strawberries and other indigenous food and in turn trade with inmates in Idaho who would grow potatoes. Thats a simplistic but realistic trade. We could even graduate to cattle and other foods upon success of the program. Prisons that are completely self sufficient will save this country millions and in turn inmates that learn valuable trades such as farming, plumbing, cooking etc. will emerge having learned a valuable skill that they could use to maintain a life. commandmints@gmail.com

Banks Continue To Fail

Investigation: Loan Modification Program Leaves Family With Nothing

Report after report has been exposing the banks failure to assist during this severe economic crisis. What are we doing about it? Nothing.
We report on it, write about it, do editorials on it and talk about it and talk about it. We do nothing. The president was set to over see the bank which became necessary since many of the unpaid debt was due to unsecured loans that have defaulted. The unprecedented foreclosures and short sales are a regular news topic and people are at an uproar, i think. I personally know someone who works at an establishment that was assisted during the bailout who’s CEO just received a 30 million dollar bonus. Its all over the news. We all know who they are yet we are helpless or at least we are without action. I don’t want to hear about the problems anymore I want to know where I can join up so that we can do something. Who do I call so that I can protest? Where do I march? Who can I boycott? What are we going to do about it?

On a personal note, my house was on a list for a short sale and it was under contract, meaning someone wanted to buy it. My bank has not come up with an equitable solution in 8 months and the buyer walked away. I have worked in an office before. Where does it take more than 8 months to process paperwork other than the insurance company? In any other company you would be fired for taking so long to do your work.
I AM MAD! AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!
